Salem is the nearest railway station and airport (~30 km), via a ghat road of 20 hairpin bends taking about an hour. Yercaud is one of Tamil Nadu's most accessible hill stations because it sits so close to the plains.
Smaller, lower (~1,500 m), much less commercialised and considerably quieter, with a far shorter approach drive. Travellers who find the bigger hill stations crowded often prefer it — though it has fewer attractions and a shorter sightseeing list.
